Fellowship

At the Institute of Clinical and Biological Psychology, the Faculty of Psychology, the University of Bergen, it is vacant a position as a fellow (100 %). The position is for a three-year period (3) year. The position is funded and linked to the EU Horizon Project Fighting Additions, Improving Lives: Comprehensive Drug Rehabilitation with Music (FALCO).

Whether the project/work tasks:

The person added will be part of the European FALCO project (Fighting Additions, Improving Lives: Comprehensive Drug Rehabilitation with Music), a large international randomised controlled study investigating the effects of music therapy on the treatment of disorders. The project covers treatment and research environments in six European countries, as well as partners in Israel and Palestine, and gathers expertise in psychology, neuroscience, psychiatry, music therapy and drug research.

The PhD project will focus specifically on the neuroimage component of FALCO, and will benefit from structural and functional MR (MRI/fMRI) to investigate the neurological mechanisms that may underlie the therapeutic effects of music. The grantor will be responsible for coordinating and conducting MR/fMRI studies with participants in the clinical study, contributing to data processing and quality control, analysing neuroimage data and disseminating research results through scientific publications and conference presentations. The position involves close cooperation with the other clinical partners, music therapists, psychologists, neurowitters and researchers before neuroimage in several European countries. It is also desirable for the candidate to develop research questions and analytical approaches within the project.

 Qualifications and properties:

  • The applicant must have a master's degree or equivalent within psychology, neuroscience, medicine, biology, computer science, physics or the surrounding subject area.
  • For inclusion in the PhD program, grade B or better is normally required on master's level, if applicable. as the average character of the degree.
  • Experience with neuroscientific research and methods is very desirable, but not a requirement, for example, for experience in the collection or analysis of fMRI and MRI data. However, a strong interest in neuroimage research and clinical neuroscience is necessary.
  • The project is based on advanced methods for neuroimage and data analysis, including MRI/fMRI processing and analysis, functional connectivity, longitudinal modelling, machine learning and multivariate methods. Programming skills (e.g. MATLAB, Python or R), handling large data sets and working with complex analyses are an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Experience with relevant neuroimage software, secure research infrastructures (for example SAFE or HPC) and experimental platforms such as PsychoPy will also be an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and structured, at the same time as one has good cooperation skills.
  • Good oral and written manufacturing ability in English.
  • Good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, sufficient to communicate with participants in clinical settings.
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills, including ability to work directly with vulnerable clinical groups.
  • Ability to cooperate effectively in an international and interdisciplinary research consortium.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and technical skills with interest in clinical research and thrives at the intersection of neuroscience, mental health and innovative therapeutic interventions.

Stipendiat
