Job description

Project description
Project title: The influence of the (peri) menopause on the cognitive functioning of women with MS.
Cognitive problems occur in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and may include informed memory, attention and speed of information processing. Also many healthy women mark during this transfer of this cognitive changes. However, it is unknown what normal changes during the transition mean for the mindset of women with MS. We also know about how the brain of women with MS change in this life phase. Since about 2 / 3rd people with MS woman is, this is an important and so far, among UserDexpensive topic. In this project we therefore investigate how the (peri-) menopause is associated with the cognitive functioning of women with MS, and to what extent these changes differ from what we see at women without MS. We also deal with MRI techniques how these problems associate with changes in the structure and functioning of the brain. By understanding better cognitive changes associated with MS, with the (peri-) menopause and with the interplay between both, we would like to contribute to better recognition and targeted guidance of women with MS in this life phase.
Within the promotional research, cooperation with international partners, including neurologists and researchers from Norway and New Zealand. The project has been funded by the MS Research foundation.
This will you do
The PhD student will set up and run studies, contribute to the collection and processing of research data, analyze neuropsychological and MRI data and write scientific articles that will ultimately form a dissertation. You combine cognitive, clinical and MRI data to better understand how the (peri-) menopause is associated with cognitive and brain changes in women with MS. You presently get your research results during Lab / Hub Meetings and on national and international conferences. In consultation there is the possibility of spending a small part of the time to education, such as guiding BSC and MSc thesis. During your promotional process, you will follow several courses about scientific writing, research integrity and topics related to your dissertation.
Within the Health, Medical and Neuropsychology department, this project will fall under the Hub Theme 'Diagnostics and Intervention for Neurocognitive Disorders'. The project is accompanied by Dr. Marit Ruitenberg, Prof. Ellen de Bruijn, and Prof. Hanneke Hulst who are involved in their field expertise in the field of neuropsychology, clinical psychology and cognitive neuroscience and MS.

Functieomschrijving

Projectomschrijving
