Örebro University is looking for a doctoral student for postgraduate education to a doctoral degree in medical science with a focus on biomedicine at the Department of Medical Sciences. Desired Education start in December 2026.
Projektbeskrivning
We are looking for a doctoral student in biomedicine to an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Knowledge Foundation within the framework of the Synergy. The project focuses on the development and use of advanced human heart organizations and multicellular 3D models to study mechanisms that affect the function of the heart in illness and exposure to biological and environmental factors.
The doctoral project will have a special focus on development, optimization and characterization of human heartphurities and organoids. The work includes advanced cell culture and development of multicellular 3D models based on relevant cardiac cell types, such as cardiomyocytes, heart fibroblasts and endothelial cells, and work with induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC) The models will be characterized with functional and molecular methods for studying, among other things, heart function, cellular responses and disease mechanisms.
The project's vision is to establish robust and physiologically relevant human heartbody models that can be used for mechanistic studies and contribute to the development of a long-term platform for human relevant and translational cardiovascular research.
The project is coordinated by Örebro University and is carried out in close collaboration between several research environments with complementary competence in cardiovascular research, stem cell biology, advanced 3D models and molecular characterization. Industrial partners include Greenstone Biosciences, Bio-Rad, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Qiagen, which creates opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration between academic and industrial research.
Tutorial: The doctoral student will be supervised by Associate Professor Geena Paramel Varghese.

Önskad utbildningsstart i december 2026.
Projektbeskrivning
