From the ad

Do you want to be part of an outstanding research environment within Ångström Advanced Battery Centre and move your research forward at Sweden’s largest faculty of science and technology?

We are now looking for an associate professor who wishes to be involved in developing and strengthening our research and education in at the department of Chemistry at Ångström Laboratory. The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted an environment focused on research and development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques. The research is, as such, both fundamental and applied.

The Department of Chemistry at Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 270 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website.

Compel (Competence and excellence for the electrification of the transport system) is a strategic initiative from the Swedish government to ensure Sweden's long-term competitiveness in battery development and electrification of the transport sector. Research and education within the platform cover the entire battery value chain and offers an interdisciplinary network for collaboration between three universities: Lund University, Chalmers University of Technology and Uppsala University. It is within this context that Compel is now recruiting several young researchers with different competencies within the battery value chain, with the ambition to build a unique interdisciplinary research and education environment. This initiative is based on a strong partnership between academia and industry to drive research and development forward.

Within the Compel initiative at Uppsala University, an associate professor will be employed at the Department of Chemistry at Ångström Laboratory to pursue research and education in the field of chemical processing for batteries. The new associate professor is invited to collaborate with the department's and Compel's researchers in an environment that supports the establishment of their own research group. The position comes with a starter package.

Subject area

The subject area of the position is chemical processing with a focus on experimental battery production, where Li-ion batteries are of prime interest. The broad scientific field includes, for example, chemical engineering, rheology, electrode engineering and battery cell production, and their correlation to battery performance. The research and teaching will include use of experimental infrastructure such as battery production lines. The field holds strong interconnections with battery materials production, utilization of batteries in devices such as electric vehicles or energy storage systems, and battery recycling.
