About the call

Research project title: Innovative technologies for the diagnosis of communicable and non-communicable diseases – ACT4

Main research field: Medical sciences

Research subfield: Veterinary medicine

Competition group (GSD): 07/MVET-03 - MALATTIE INFETTIVE E PARASSITARIE DEGLI ANIMALI

Disciplinary sector (SSD): MVET-03/B - Parassitologia e malattie parassitarie degli animali e dell'uomo

Summary: The ACT4 project aims to implement monitoring systems for arthropod vectors using innovative traps that utilize volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Specifically, the project seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of VOCs in selectively capturing these vectors compared to traditional methods. The main objectives are: 1) Development of innovative systems for the early surveillance of vectors (entomological risk) associated with climate change and globalization, with potential applications at both national and European levels. 2) Identification of VOCs that attract sandflies and mosquitoes. 3) Monitoring for the potential introduction of mosquito and sandfly species at sites with a high risk of alien and/or invasive species entry (e.g., port and/or airport areas). 4) Supplementing entomological data with molecular evidence regarding the identification of captured specimens and the detection of pathogens transmitted by them.
