Job description

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (as) is a progressive and currently incurable neurodegenerative disorder where motorneuries that control the muscles are lost. At about 97% from patients with the hotele, the protein tdp 43 is wrongly located in the cell and forms the toxic protein clones. This contributes to the loss of engine neurons.
In this promotional research, you study the biology of TDP- 43 and bring you the early stages of the pathological cascade to TDP 43 -Gggation. You are using Post-Mortem human tissue of the central nervous system, certificated drop-based droplets, and crisp technology.
Your research contributes to identifying possible therapeutic engagement points for the large group of patients with whom TDP 43 -EItwitloptering occurs. During this four-year promotional process, you work closely with molecular neuroscalances and experts in neuropathology. Also, you will make an active contribution to the patient participation program.
Do you want to know more about the different phases within the PhD course? Onthis page Please read more information about this.
You are investigating the biological mechanisms underlying TDP 43 -pathology in patients with. You combine human-brain tissue research with advanced cellular disease models. You:
  • Performs crisp screens in cell culture models and works with neural growth based on IPSCs;
  • Works with donated human brain tissue of patients with, as you enlarge the translational impact of your research;
  • Studies biological mechanisms as identifying potential engagement points for medicine development;
  • Continuing directly with the patient community and contributes to the involvement of patients and their representatives in your research.

Cooperation is central to the department and Amsterdam UMC, with the caucasians of the VU and UVA, within the Amsterdam neuroscience community and with leading researchers worldwide.
You will be in a young and dynamic research team with an open and creative work atmosphere. We stimulate new ideas and innovative research methods and provide space to further develop your scientific expertise. Together we work more insight into neurodegenerative disorders, with the ultimate goal new matripes of medicine development and improvement of patient care. This research project of Amsterdam UMC is funded by the Foundation as the Netherlands.
Amsterdam UMC Research BV
Amsterdam UMC Research BV supports scientific research without profit. This ensures researchers in all they need to excellence. Thus, our principal investigators (PIs) and project leaders provide guidance in project management, finance and human resources. In case of medical scientific research projects, support is also provided.

Functieomschrijving

  • voert CRISPR-screens uit in celkweekmodellen en werkt met neurale kweken op basis van iPSC's;
  • werkt met gedoneerd menselijk hersenweefsel van patiënten met ALS, waarmee je de translationele impact van je onderzoek vergroot;
  • bestudeert biologische mechanismen bij ALS en identificeert potentiële aangrijpingspunten voor medicijnontwikkeling;

  • een masterdiploma in de neurowetenschappen, biomedische wetenschappen, biologie of een aanverwant vakgebied;
  • aantoonbare interesse in neurodegeneratieve aandoeningen en neuropathologie;
  • een sterke achtergrond in experimenteel laboratoriumonderzoek en ervaring met celkweek;
  • sterke analytische vaardigheden; ervaring met bio-informatica is een pre;
