The Department of Economics and Society, School of Economics at the University of Gothenburg, announces 1–2 PhD positions in innovation, entrepreneurship and management of intellectual assets at the Division of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The department provides independent courses at undergraduate level, two master's programmes (Master of Science in Innovation and Industrial Management and Master of Science in Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship) and conducts postgraduate studies. The PhD students will be an important part of the international center https://www.gu.se/en/u-gotkies, that is located at the department, and ongoing international research projects. The doctoral projects focus on the creation and transfer of knowledge between small and large companies and between companies and universities in specific areas of technology and industry. Our research is carried out together with, and disseminated to, companies, universities and other types of organizations, both locally and globally. The research group to which the doctoral students will belong consists of national and international researchers.

Tasks

Doctoral education in innovation, entrepreneurship and management of intellectual assets consists of carrying out a scientific project and participating in doctoral courses of at least 90 credits. Furthermore, it may also include applying research results in collaboration with companies, universities and the public sector and participating in international research conferences. The programme leads to one of the doctoral students written scientific compilation thesis or monograph corresponding to 150 credits, which should be defended at a public defence. Doctoral studies comprise four years of full-time studies and lead to a doctoral degree.

Within the framework of your doctoral position, you can have departmental service with a maximum of 20% of full-time, distributed over the entire training period. Such service entails a corresponding extension of the training period. Departmental duties usually include basic and advanced education, but research and administration can also be included.

Admission to doctoral studies at doctoral level requires basic eligibility and, where appropriate, the specific eligibility set out in the general study plan for the subject of doctoral studies.

Basic eligibility for doctoral studies at doctoral level has it as:

• completed an advanced level degree; or
• completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at advanced level, or
• otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.

Admission and employment

After you have been admitted to doctoral studies, you will receive a doctoral position at the University of Gothenburg. The regulations for employment as a doctoral student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance SFS 1993:100. The first position as a doctoral student may not exceed one year and may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. A doctoral student may be employed as a doctoral student for a maximum of eight years, but the total period of employment may not exceed that corresponding to full-time doctoral education for four years.

The position is located at the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Department of Economics and Society.

Access is 2027-02-01 or by agreement, but no later than 2027-04-01.

The university applies local agreement on the salary setting of doctoral students.

The doctoral education at the Department of Economics and Society requires a physical presence to carry out the studies. If the adopted person needs a residence permit to study in Sweden, the Department of Economics and Society has the right to withdraw the decision on admission in the event that the adopted person cannot present a valid residence permit at the start of the study.
