Projektbeskrivning

Forskarutbildningsämne:Technical mechanics

This project belonging to the EU doctoral network Faircfd combines high-performance calculations, experiments and artificial intelligence to study non-Newtonian flows, to improve rheological characterization and modeling. Specifically, a digital twin for reliable measurement of parameters of complex fluids in time-varying and chaotic flows is developed.

Modern AI techniques will be utilized to find spatial patterns in calculation and experimental data and to optimize the sensitivity to different parameters. The researcher will be part of the dynamic research group Complex Fluids and access supercomputer resources at KTH, Swedish E-Science Research Center (SERC) and the prominent research environment Flow.

Tutorial:Outi Tammisola and Fredrik Lundell are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are taken on admission

Eligibility for admission

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Cape 7 39 § The Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant is required to have basic eligibility:

  • Mobilitetsregler - Candidates must not have been resident or had their main business (work, studies, etc.) in Sweden in more than 12 months during the 3 years that immediately precedes the recruit date.
  • disposed a degree at advanced level, or
  • Fulfilled course claims on at least 240 High school credits, at least 60 High school credits at advanced level, or
  • In any other way within or outside the country, equivalent knowledge is mainly acquired.

A suitable background for this service is a master's degree in engineering, mathematics or physics focusing on flow mechanics, numerical calculations or experiments, and / or applied mathematics.

In addition to the above there is also a mandatory requirement in English corresponding to English B / 6.

Selection

To succeed with your doctoral studies on KTH, you need to be targeted and persistent in your work. In selecting the applicants, the ability is assessed to:

  • independently pursue his work ahead,

Information about admission and employment

Only the one who has been adopted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total employment period may not be longer than that corresponds to education at full-time postgraduate for four years. An employee doctoral student can to a limited extent (at most 20 %) perform certain tasks within eg. education and administration. A new employment as a doctoral student applies for a maximum of one year, the employment may then be renewed by a maximum of two years at a time. In studies to be terminated with a licentiate degree, the total employment time may not be longer than that corresponds to training at a full-time postgraduate for two years.

As a doctoral student, you get part of KTH's employment benefits and has a monthly salary according to KTH's doctoral salary agreement. Read more about research studies at KTH | KTH | Sweden

Compensation - In addition to the basic salary mentioned in the link above, a mobility compensation and possibly a family replacement in all services within the Marie Curie program is included. For more information, read here. Basic salary and additional replacements are given before tax.
