The Department of Marketing and Strategy at the Stockholm School of Economics invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in strategic marketing.

Please note that this is not an open-rank search; we are specifically seeking early-career scholars for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates with a completed Ph.D. Degree in Business Administration from an accredited university or business school (EQUIS, AACSB, or AMBA). The candidate must have completed their doctoral degree priority to taking up the position. As a candidate, you should have a research background in the area of strategic marketing, such as markets strategies or marketing strategies, and have an interest in teaching research that has practical implications for organizations.

The successful candidate is exposed to through in an inclusive, methodologically and theoretically pluralist research environment that aims to contribute to both academic knowledge and a better society. Candidates will have demonstrable strengths in both research and teaching.

Your qualifications

Candidates will have the ability to publish in top-tier peer-reviewed international journals, such as AJG (4/4*) and those on the FT50 list. This will be experienced by publications, research pipeline, and a documented presence in the international research community. Reviewing experience from relevant journals is a merit.

The candidates should have documented experience from teaching relevant courses at Bachelor and/or Master levels and must demonstrate teaching effectiveness as indicated by teaching evaluations, letters of recommendations and/or peer reviews. Experience from course directions, designing courses, coaching student projects, and teaching in executive education are considered merits.  Teaching (in English) andcurs at Bachelor, Master and Executive levels. Research and teaching are equally important and the candidate will be offered support and training in education.

Ultimately, candidates should demonstrate an ability and willingness to receive administrative duties and play a full part in the intellectual life of the department and school at large.

Condition

The tenure track period is 6 years, conditional on successful mid-term review after 3 years. Tenure evaluation takes place before the end of year 6 (at the latest), and successful evaluation leads to conversion of the tenure-track position into a tenured associate professor position.

The standard teaching load for tenure-track functionality at SSE is 40%, typically corresponding to four courses per year. This load may be halved through external research grants. As the position is partially found by a Browaldh research scholarship, it carries a reduced teaching load of 20% (typically two courses per year) throughout the tenure-track period.

In teaching and research, there are ample opportunities to engage in collaboration with the wide network of partner organizations at the Stockholm School of Economics, including ABB, Accenture, Ericsson, H&M, McKinsey & Co, Scania, SEB and many others.

The exacted start date for the position is August 2027, but we are open to discussing alternative start dates. Salaries are competitive, combined with qualifications and experience, and are set on an individual basis.

About the Department of Marketing and Strategy

The Department of Marketing and Strategy is one of six Academic Departments at the Stockholm School of Economics. The department currently consults of 9 full professors, 7 associate professors, 11 assist professors, 2 lecturers, and 20 PhD students. The department contributes to teaching in the Bachelor, Master, PhD, MBA and Executive Education programs at SSE. The department also hosts about 35 research fellows.

Research at the department covers sequential disciplines including Marketing, Strategic Management, and International Business, but also economic sociology, economic history, and economic geography. A variety of theoretical perspectives and research methods are thus employed.

The department has a high-performance research orientation and culture. Faculty members are expected to regularly publish in top journals within their prospective fields. Our tenure evaluations reflect this and rely, among other things, on the AJG and FT50 lists as indicators of research quality. Besides publishing, our family members also actively and successfully apply for external research grants to fund both their own research and PhD and post doc projects.
