Description of the post
Subject of Thesis
Subject:
The "Recurring Circuits, Learning and Memory" team recruits a PhD student to study the neuronal mechanisms involved in the formation of flexible memory in Drosophila melanogaster's larva. The project will combine behavioral, neurogenetic and in vivo calcium imaging approaches using two photon microscopy.
Activities:
We study the fundamental principles underlying associative learning by exploring the neuronal circuits of the brain of the Drosophile's larva. This system, characterized by low neuronal redundancy, allows us to study the functional contribution of individual neurons to complex behaviours. Furthermore, the circuits involved in learning have a high level of recurrence.
Through a combination of neurogenetic tools, advanced behavioural analyses, in vivo imaging and connectome data, we seek to understand how interactions within these recurring circuits influence memory formation and decision-making.
As part of this doctoral project, the PhD student will study the neuronal dynamics associated with learning and memory formation within the mushroom body, combining genetic manipulation, behavioural experiments and functional imaging.
The main activities will be:
- Bibliographic monitoring and analysis of scientific literature
- Design and realization of genetic crosses
- Planning and conducting behavioural experiments
- Implementation and realization of in vivo calcium imaging experiments in two-photon microscopy
- Analysis and interpretation of experimental data
- Rigorous maintenance of the laboratory workbook and organization of data
- Presentation and regular discussion of the results within the team
- Preparation and presentation of scientific results, including publications and presentations in conferences.
Expected competencies:
- Master 2 in neuroscience or related field
- The candidate must have an experience with Drosophila melanogaster and/or calcium imaging (confocal or 2 photons)
- High interest in fundamental neurosciences and neuronal mechanisms of learning and memory
- Good analytical and scientific thinking skills
- Basic knowledge of statistics and programming (e.g. Python or Matlab)
- Good scientific communication skills in English, written and oral
- Rigor, autonomy and ability to work within a team.

Description du Poste
Sujet De Thèse
Sujet :
