Job Description
Thesis subject
The thesis project aims to develop new synthetic cells capable of maintaining biological functions in artificial micro-compartments. The project is based on coacervate, microgradletlets formed by liquid-liquid phase separation, in order to create controlled physico-chemical environments for the organization and operation of biological systems dedicated to energy production. The thesis will focus more specifically on the physico-chemical design and characterization of coacervate capable of hosting active organic entities (enzymes, organisms), and their stabilization in the face of coalescence.
Activities
- Coacervate formulation and development of stabilization strategies
- Characterization of various physicochemical properties and their influence on the encapsulation of biological systems
- Quantification of biochemical activities by spectroscopic methods
- Acquisitions of optical microscopy
- Analysis of images and data
Skills
- Master in physico-chemistry / soft matter (or equivalent)
- Very motivated and endowed with strong experimental skills.
- Mastering Scientific English (comprehension and speaking and written expression)
- Good organization of organization and communication.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
Your work environment
The project is part of an interdisciplinary (charge) project funded by the National Research Agency (ANR).
The thesis will be done in codirection, within the biophysiochemistry team of the Research Center Paul Pascal (CRPP, http://www.crpp.cnrs.fr), and in the team specima of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of Membranes and Nano-objects (CBMN These two laboratories bring together chemists, biochemists, physico-chemists and physicists, and have advanced scientific equipment, synthesis to the characterization of soft matter and biological systems.
The position is in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
