Description of the post
Subject of Thesis
A doctoral thesis in cognitive sciences is proposed at the Institut des Sciences Cognitives Marc Jeannerod (Lyon), under the direction of Jean-Rémy Hochmann and Liuba Papeo.
The position is fully funded for a period of three years and can begin in November 2026. The thesis will focus on the study of the representation of social and non-social events in the human mind and brain, focusing on one or more of the following questions: early representation in infants, the format of representations and their neuronal correlates in infants and adults (using methodologies such as fMRI, EEG and/or fNIRS).
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate, who holds a Master's degree (or equivalent degree) in cognitive sciences, psychology, neuroscience, computer science or related fields, and who wants to invest in interdisciplinary approaches to better understand human cognition.
Experience in experimental research and data analysis is required, as well as good command of written and oral English. Good programming skills (e.g. in Python, R or MATLAB) as well as prior experience in EEG, fNIRS, MRIf, eye-tracking or computational modelling would be assets.

Your Working Environment
The project is being developed at ISCMJ, a particularly stimulating and dynamic research centre, which brings together twelve teams working in different fields of cognitive neuroscience. The life of the laboratory is organized in such a way as to foster interaction and collaboration within and between teams, including through weekly seminars and regular workshops.
The recognized expertise of ISCMJ and the successful development of many doctoral theses in recent years make ISCMJ a centre of excellence for research and training of students and researchers.
