Description of the post
Subject of Thesis
As part of the ERC-Synergie NASCE ("Natural Auditory SCEnes in Humans and Machines") project, this thesis aims to understand how brain regions interact to analyze and interpret real-world auditory scenes, composed of environmental sounds and multiple sound sources.
The PhD student will study brain connectivity and hearing dynamics from magnetoencephalography (MEG) and stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) data. The work will focus on the exchange of information between brain regions during listening, focusing on the acoustic and semantic dimensions of the scenes and the influence of context and attention.
Activities will include:
• Preprocessing and monitoring the quality of MEG and SEEG data, and analysing its temporal and frequency dynamics;
• Implement and develop connectivity analyses and multivariate methods to characterize interactions between brain regions and representations of hearing scenes;
• Develop, test and document reusable Python analysis chains, with appropriate validation procedures and statistical tests;
• Contribute to the preparation of experiences and MEG acquisitions, in collaboration with team members and project partners;
• Participate in the drafting of scientific papers and presentation of results at project meetings and conferences.
Your Working Environment
The position is hosted at the Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone (INT, UMR 7289, CNRS/Aix-Marseille Université) in Marseille, within the team led by Bruno Giordano. The PhD student will work in interaction with H/F researchers, engineers and PhD students involved in auditory neurosciences, MEG/SEEG and computational modelling, and will collaborate with the European partners of the NASCE project (including the Maastricht team for ultra-high field MRI and IA modelling).
The PhD student will be enrolled in Ph.D. at Aix-Marseille University, as part of the NeuroSchool program. Regular interactions with team members in Maastricht are planned (videoconference meetings, joint workshops).

Description du Poste
• Prétraiter et contrôler la qualité des données MEG et SEEG, et en analyser la dynamique temporelle et fréquentielle ;
• Mettre en œuvre et développer des analyses de connectivité et des méthodes multivariées pour caractériser les interactions entre régions cérébrales et les représentations des scènes auditives ;
• Développer, tester et documenter des chaînes d’analyse Python réutilisables, avec des procédures de validation et des tests statistiques adaptés ;
• Contribuer à la préparation des expériences et aux acquisitions MEG, en collaboration avec les membres de l’équipe et les partenaires du projet ;
