Description of the post

Subject of Thesis

Build plans to achieve their goals - and more generally decide and learn how to act - are fundamental problems for intelligent agents. The traditional focus of AI planning is the generation of plans for an individual agent on the assumption that no other agent is involved and that the planning agent has a perfect knowledge of the environment and the pre- and post-conditions of the actions. More expressive forms of planning must take into account other aspects such as reasoning about the beliefs, goals, intentions and actions of other agents ('theory of the mind'); learning from past experiences; monitoring the outcome of actions and learning and managing possibly unanticipated results.
Applicants must propose a short research project related to these themes (max. 1 page).
The successful candidate will work on the conceptual and formal basis of planning formalism. It will participate in the research activities of Department IA in particular by presenting its results at national and international conferences as well as at departmental seminars.
We are looking for a candidate who has worked in representation of knowledge and/or learning who is interested in their integration into the planning context.

The Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (IRIT) is one of the largest computer laboratories in France. His AI department has a long tradition of research in representation of knowledge and reasoning. The recruited person will work on the website of the University of Toulouse.
