Description of the post
Subject of Thesis
The new way of transmitting electrical power to plasma, notably through the application of high-power pulses in a reactive medium (R-HiPIMS), greatly expands the phenomena to be explored by adding a temporal dimension that separates the phases of gas ionization, spraying, and ionization of the sprayed material. The structural and functional properties of the films obtained are improved by the use of this process. The main objectives of the project are to design a new generation of nitride coatings using a dual approach, and to use machine learning to predict and develop coatings with the desired tribological properties. This includes establishing relationships between R-HiPIMS process parameters, plasma, microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties, and other physical properties, in order to provide experimental data for automatic learning.
The challenges in this project are also current scientific locks:
To obtain a nanostructured monophase coating, to master the microstructure by understanding the phenomena involved, to cover metallic substrates of various compositions and geometries.
Keywords : Coatings, microstructure, nitrides, green tribology, automatic learning, R-HiPIMS.
Your Working Environment
Created in 1995, the Institut de chimie de la matière condensée de Bordeaux (ICMCB) focuses its research on Solid Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemistry and Processes: designing, preparing, shaping and characterizing materials to discover, master and optimize specific functions. The ICMCB conducts fundamental research on model materials and/or likely to have applications.
The ICMCB is a UMR composed of 280 agents on average (permanent and non-permanent), with 3 tutelage, hosted by the CNRS and in total ZRR.
The post is located in an area of scientific and technical potential protection (STPP), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that the arrival of the agent be authorized by the competent authority of the CSRM.
Constraints and risks
The candidate will have to hold a training course in physico-chemistry, with good knowledge of material characterization. An experiment in the deposition of coatings by reactive cathodic spraying would be an asset.
A good spirit of analysis and synthesis and excellent communication skills will be needed to present the results to the various partners and interact with the steering team. The work will be carried out as part of an industrial partnership.
