Description of the post

Subject of Thesis

The work will combine electromagnetic modelling, metasurface design, nanofabrication and optical characterization. It will include modeling the interaction between transmitters and nanophotonic structures, studying dispersion diagrams and resonant modes, and optimizing structures to simultaneously maximize directivity and light extraction.
The selected architectures will then be manufactured by micro- and nano-manufacturing technologies available within CRHEA. Their characterization will include spectral and angularly resolute measurements to reconstruct the emission diagrams in the reciprocal space and quantitatively evaluate the control obtained on the emission.
These structures will then be covered with organic molecules to study the directionivity of their emission under optical excitation. Finally, the design and integration of a metasurface of wave front shaping will demonstrate a first prototype of directional and structured emission meta-OLED. The manufacture of organic materials and OLED will be carried out at the LPL.

Your Working Environment

This project will be carried out in collaboration with CRHEA (main place of work), LPL (Villetaneuse) and MPQ (Paris). Simulation tools, a clean room and optical characterization benches are available for the design and characterization of metasurfaces and OLEDs.
The candidate will be in charge of the design and manufacture of metasurfaces and optical sources and their characterization. Of course, it is not necessary for the candidate to be already familiar with all these subjects and techniques, but it must be motivated and interested in order to deepen all these aspects in depth. Knowledge of photonics in particular metasurfaces and optical sources will be greatly appreciated. The candidate will have a sense of organization and team spirit. A PhD or equivalent level in physics, preferably photonic, is requested.
