Description of the workplace

The research group Regenerative immunology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Medical Faculty, currently conducts research on congenital mechanisms for tumor resistance in water analamanders and how these mechanisms are linked to their regenerative ability Currently, the research group works with understanding the limits of water salamanders' tumor resistance and the common and distinctive mechanisms between regenerative tissue and tumor tissue. The research group is led by a senior lecturer Nicholas Leigh and also consists of another seven employees. The group is international and includes students, postdoctorals and technical staff. We are now looking for a driven and experienced researcher in cancer biology and regenerative biology that can contribute to the project. Tasks and responsibilities

The research assignment means that you independently, under the leadership of the project manager, carry out analyzes of regenerative processes and response to genotoxic stress. The work includes the care of water salmon, bioinformatics and common molecular biology techniques. The tasks also include oral presentations, production of figures, writings of manuscripts and the tutoring of Junior researchers.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in cancer biology, regenerative biology, molecular biology or equivalent.
  • Experience of research on, handling and care of salamanders.
  • Experience of analyzing morphological events associated with regeneration and work with emerging model organisms.
  • Ability to conduct independent research at advanced level, including previous experience of independently leading a research project.
  • Very good ability to express themselves in speech and writing in English.
  • Good analytical ability, driving force and good cooperation ability.

Merit qualifications for the employment are:

  • Experience of generating knockout and / or transgenic salamander lines.
  • Previous experience of research within similar projects.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The research assignment consists of you independently conducting an analysis of regenerative events and genotoxic stress responses, under the leadership of the project manager. The analysis includes newt caretaking, bioinformatics, and common molecular biology techniques. The work duties also comprise of giving oral presentations, generating figures, drafting manuscripts, and mentoring junior scientists.

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are:

  • A doctoral degree in cancer biology, regenerative biology, molecular biology, or similar
  • Experience researching, handling, and caring for salamanders
  • Experience of analyzing morphological events surrounding regeneration and working with emerging model organisms. 
  • The ability to conduct independent research at an advanced level, having previously led a project independently
  • Strong ability to write and speak in English
  • Good analytical ability, drive and a good ability to collaborate
